After a very exciting and exhausting couple of months, the Japan Crafts shop is finally open to the public! You and your friends/craft group are more than welcome to come and visit, simply MAKE AN APPOINTMENT by phone or email to ensure that I will be there. The shop is on Floodgate Street in Digbeth, Birmingham, and you will be welcomed through this peaceful courtyard... We have so many treasures waiting for you! Beautiful sashiko threads of every colour... Rolls of fabric for patchwork and dressmaking. Genuine vintage kimono bolts... A wonderful selection of books on sashiko, Japanese crafts and other related topics... With a cosy corner to sit and read or have a coffee in, and even a rail of unique, vintage silk haori jackets for you to try on There is so much more to discover in this little slice of Japan and I can't wait to show you everything! I have plans to start teaching workshops in the space, and you might want to set aside the afternoon of Sunday 30th October for a very special launch party...more details on that coming soon! Please read the information on this page before you visit The shop is on the same street as Red Brick Market, where you can also find Retro Kimono and Grumpy Daruma amongst over 120 other local independent traders IN OTHER NEWS We had a lovely time exhibiting at Festival of Quilts and it was so wonderful to see lots of familiar faces again after such a long time away from the shows. Everybody appreciated the wide aisles and spacious layout, and because the NEC is only 20 minutes' drive from the shop, we were able to pop in and bring more stock each morning before the show.
Since then, I have been busy pricing everything in the shop (the new grid wall displays hold literally thousands of threads so this has been a mammoth task!). Also rolling all of the big fabric rolls down onto bolts as these are easier to store, and stock taking/reordering from Japan all the things that sold at Festival. I really enjoy taking a basket and 'shopping' for all your website orders before packing and sending them, too! I do have some gorgeous new fabrics and will be getting more in the next couple of weeks, so those will need to be photographed and added to the website. If you can't make it to the shop, don't worry, there are plenty of new goodies on the website including a curated selection of books to inspire you. I've also added more vintage kimono fabrics and reduced them all to just £9.99 a metre. These are perfect for adding to your patchwork or boro-inspired projects, mending/upcycling clothing, scarves, table runners etc. They are completely unique and usually only around 12m on a bolt, so if you want something one of a kind, this could be it!
