Handmade Paulownia Wood Sewing Box with Needles and Thread Winder
From Misuyabari - the Imperial needle makers to the Japanese Royal Family for the last 360 years!
This gorgeous handmade wooden box will keep your needles and sewing sundries safe and free from rust as it is made from the lightweight wood of the paulawnia (kiri) tree. This wood is considered to be the best for storing precious goods such as kimono, as it absorbs moisture.
The box is lined with paper (you should remove this before use), and contains a 'chirimen' fabric thread winder and a pack of 25 needles in size 7, which is the most popular choice for general sewing and needlework.
The box is carved by hand, and the lid will only fit correctly when you line up the pencil marks on the side.
Needles are each made individually by hand, and are considered the best in Japan, being frequently referred to as 'little samurai swords' for their sharpness and reliability. Make sure you store them in their silver foil to prevent rust.
Thread winders all vary in terms of colour and design. You will be sent one at random, however do let me know if you have a colour preference and I will send that if I have it.
