I'm now a full time member of Japan Crafts!
Yep, you read that right. I have left my full time job to many tears and wails (or was it cheers and bunting? Can't quite remember) from my hard working colleagues at the local authority and will now be at the mercy of Katie, and quite possibly you, dear customer, as well.
Katie and I have done some crazy things in our time and this is probably at the top of that list as we've no idea if it's the right thing to do, only time will tell! One thing is for sure, I'm very much looking forward to being able to spend more time with Katie and I'll now be able to do that instead of only getting time together when I had to take holidays from full time work to help out at one of the many shows and workshops we do each year.
The other thing is quality of life, I get to see what you don't which is the MASSIVE amount of work that Katie puts in to make Japan Crafts the success story that it is as it hurtles relentlessly towards its 10th year.
The fabric doesn't cut itself, the wonderful kits don't magically arrive all packed up with clear instructions and the workshops aren't simply things that get taught, they all need developing first and then there's the stock control and sourcing the right kinds of shows to do plus dealing with the growing number of enquiries for talks and workshops (2017 is starting to look busy by the way, 2016 is already chock-a-block). For the most part Katie has been doing this all by herself with periodic help.
Basically the time seems right to bring somebody on board and that somebody is me, and I am so proud to be joining! Katie has built this business up single handed but there is now too much for one person to do (she's too good). We've bought ourselves time.
This is time that we can spend developing the next generation of products, time we can spend coming to more shows up and down the UK but, and this is vital, by having two pairs of hands on deck we can actually have some more time together.
So I look forward to seeing you all on our travels! In the meantime have a look at this leaving gift I got from the council, it's actually for Katie to summon me. You thinks it's a joke gift don't you? I wish...
